Caherconnell Stone Fort
Caherconnell Stone Fort is very near to Poulnabrone Dolmen, so both can be visited on the same day. Caherconnell has tours of the Stone Fort and there are daily Sheepdog Demonstrations. There is a cafe selling coffee and cakes and serving lunch and a lovely gift shop.
Caherconnell fort, inhabited until the late 16th century, is excavated annually, revealing treasures that enhance our understanding. Discoveries like jewellery, Venetian glass, and Baltic amber suggest a high-class settlement, while artifacts such as board game pieces and musical instruments highlight its cultured and literate nature.
